GMail opens up registration to all

Just read on GMail opens up registration to all:

CNet reports that Google has lifted the invitation-only registration requirement for GMail. The Google Operating System also noted that anyone can now sign up for a GMail account.

Spam Anyone?

One of the main reasons Google placed restrictions on their Gmail registration is to prevent “abuse.” By “abuse” they mean spam.

So now it’s wide open, does that equal increased spam? I doubt it. I’ve been quite happy with Gmail’s spam-blocking features, and to this day, they block enough spam with a small enough number of false-positives…enough for me to be satisfied with at least.

While it is possible for an increase in spam, at last check of my spam folder on Gmail, I can honestly say, I would be shocked to see if it could get any worse.

As this new “open” season arrives for Gmail, are you noticing any new spam problems?
