Superbowl: Fantastic Game, But What Happened To the Commercials?

This year’s Superbowl turned out to be a really great game to watch. Two evenly matched teams, both relative under-dogs (as far as playoff and Superbowl history go), battling it out how football is supposed to be played.

However, was I the only one sorely disappointed by the Superbowl commercials?

As I understand it, the spots during the game are some of the most coveted chunks of advertising time around. For roughly $5 million for a 30-second spot, wouldn’t advertisers put a little more thought into the actual commercial?

Not to sound too pessimistic, but I really expected something amazing, what with the whole “consumer-produced” commercial hype the Dorito’s had going on since back in September.

Although there were a few that made me chuckle, memorable ads like the Bud-weis-er frogs were nowhere to be found. It’s possible that companies may be wising up to the shrinking benefits of having a Superbowl ad, especially one that is mediocre at best.

What was your favorite ad? Is there something you wish would have been shown that wasn’t?
